At the Plague Cemetary

On a nice summer day we visited a cemetary that was originally built for the victims of the plague that came over Munich in the 14th century. In these times people thought it would be safe to build a high wall around the cemetary. After the plague anybody was buried there until the year 1945. During World War II a bomb was dropped on it and destroyed some parts especially the very, very old plague graves. But there are still a lot of old graves, the oldest we saw was from 1789.

Me at the entry

A very pretty, but also a little bit spooky tombstone

Doesn't this remind you of the Christus in the Salt Lake Temple Visitors' Center?

Looks like a church, but it's also a tombstone!

It was very scary...Jordan found that vertebrae near a grave in the area where the bomb hit. It most likely from a plague victim...
